What this course actually gets youWhen it is granted, your name joins a list that runs back more than fourteen centuries.
Your ijazah document lists every teacher in the chain of transmission back to the Prophet ﷺ.
Every juz heard and corrected by a sheikh who holds the ijazah they are granting.
An ijazah is a permission to transmit, which is what qualifies you to teach the Quran to others.
For a hafiz with solid tajweed, typically 1 to 2 years at 20 classes a month. For a fluent reader pursuing an ijazah in recitation rather than memorisation, often 2 to 3 years. Anyone offering an ijazah in a few months is not examining the whole Quran, and the document would not be respected by people who know what to look for.
An ijazah is only ever as credible as the sheikh who grants it and the chain they hold. Ours are granted by teachers whose own ijazah and chain of narration are documented and shown to you before you begin. You should ask this question of any academy, and be concerned if the answer is vague.
Yes. An ijazah can be granted for recitation from the Mushaf (ijazah bil-tilawah) as well as from memory (ijazah bil-hifz). The track differs, and the assessment at the start will tell you which one fits where you are.
Memorising is the easy part. Keeping it is the work, and the plan is built around that.
